This day-long tour visits historic and natural interest sites, as well as settlements that seem to have been transported back to ancient times –all of them beautiful and unique. Starting from Villa de Leyva and heading towards Paipa we find the Pantano de Vargas monument, a symbol of heroism in the Colombian independency wars. The second destination is the town of Firavitoba and Iza, a place famous for its sweat lodges and mouthwatering desserts. After enjoying a good sweat (Iza Hot Spring) and a delicious lunch, we continue towards Observation Points that look down on the Tota Lagoon until we reach the Playa Blanca (White Beach) area, where we will enjoy a stroll through its white sands. At mid-afternoon, we continue towards Patrimonio de Monguí (Monguí’s Heritage Site) to tour its colonial-fashioned streets, where the tour will end and the party returns to Villa de Leyva or continues to another destination, according to its convenience.

Relaxing-contemplative-cultural tour. Ideal for any age group from 8 years old to mature travelers. Maximum 2 hours visit to the sweat lodges. Return to Villa de Leyva or to another destination at the travelers’ request. Cold weather with high probability of rain. Adequate trekking clothes and shoes are a must. Swimming suits and towels are encouraged.

Recommendation: Include an additional night at Iza to spend more time at the sweat lodges and another night at Monguí to visit the numerous interesting locations, such as the Ocetá Paramo and the nearby lagoons. All lodgings are organized by Colombian Highlands. See additional fees. Colombian Highlands also offer transportation from Monguí or Iza to Bogota or Barichara.
